Get answers to common questions about Color Root Retouch.
Most clients schedule root retouches every 4–6 weeks, depending on hair growth rate, contrast between roots and color, and desired upkeep. Darker or high-contrast colors may need more frequent visits; your stylist will recommend the ideal timing during consultation.
Color root retouches are designed to match and refresh your current shade rather than alter it. If you want a shade adjustment, discuss options with your stylist—small toning tweaks can be made during the service to refine the final look.
A typical root retouch appointment takes 45–90 minutes, depending on hair length, density, complexity of the color match, and whether a toner or blowout is included. Your stylist will give a more accurate time estimate when booking.
When performed by our trained colorists, root retouches are safe for chemically treated hair. We assess hair condition first, choose gentle formulas, and can incorporate bond-repair treatments if needed to protect integrity. Always disclose recent services to your stylist.
Use sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo and lukewarm water to extend longevity. Avoid swimming, heavy sweating, and prolonged sun exposure for 48 hours. Use conditioning masks and heat protection when styling, and follow your stylist's recommended at-home products for best results.
A root retouch targets regrowth at the scalp and won’t convert highlights to an all-over solid color. To switch from highlights to full coverage, your stylist will recommend an all-over color or additional services, which may require more time and a separate price.
